Kawa Tuesday number 2

At the second in our series of Tuesdays at Kawa, each of us did a quick pen and paper sketch (appended below). Not bad, but it would be great to have a serious artist in the group.
The book we shared was The Power of Meaning: Finding Fulfillment in a World Obsessed with Happiness by Emily Esfahani Smith. Particularly in our consumer society where so many people are engaged in a counterproductive search for happiness, this book seems very important.
We brainstormed ideas for quests (inspired by the book shared last week). We shared an article on how to reduce gun violence inschools http://bit.ly/2Bwed24 by connecting with youngsters who are isolated (hey, not just for schools, eh?). We recalled things we were proud of that we had done before we were twenty years old. We read aloud two pieces of very short fiction.
If you plan to come next Tuesday, bring your imagination and a contribution such as a poem or very short story (flash fiction) to read aloud; or a good book to tell us about; or a good article about current events or some other topic related to our purpose; or a good question or quotation as a starting point for generative dialogue, like“Everyone has talent. What's rare is the courage to follow it to the dark places where it leads” (Erica Jong).
We have to learn to think easily both outside and inside the box. Next Tuesday I'll bring a box of Purdy's chocolates for practice.
Kawa is at 1333 8th Street SW. We'll be there at 6 PM on Tuesday.
