Tuesday October 9 we’ll be at Second Cup in Kensington / Sunnyside, and Wednesday October 10 at Vendome. The dialogues start at 6 PM.
Last Tuesday was that big snowfall, which had its own magic. At Second Cup we heard about a workshop Zoe is doing in November and talked about a new team project for next year’s Social Transformation Tournament.
Wednesday the five-minute presentations had the panache of women’s fashions with pockets by Zoe and feathers by Laurie Lin. The feathers were from a peacock and the pockets were from the French Revolution. No, seriously. Newcomers included Maggie (from Egypt) and Cyril (from Nigeria) and Kimberley (from Newfoundland) and Hossein (from Calgary). Listening to a couple of their five-minute stories, we had a chance to practice our empathic listening skills.
One of the books shared was Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck, in which she describes two mindsets, one that will take you through lots of “failures” and thereby enable you to constantly explore, learn, and discover (the growth mindset); and the other (the fixed mindset) that will make you look good (like really smart) and might even give you short-term success, but in the long run leaves you stuck in your image of who you are.
Bring your growth mindset with you next week.
Arthur
