Recently we participated in a Jane's walk (Hello Stranger!) that started at the new Humainologie Gallery and Store. My book synopsis for this coming Wednesday May 15 will be of Eyes on the Street: The Life of Jane Jacobs (by Robert Kanigel). It was Jane Jacobs who inspired the Jane's walks done each year in various cities including Calgary. For the following Wednesday (May 22) I'll do a synopsis of her classic, The Death and Life of Great American Cities. Because of that focus on Jane Jacobs, I'll suggest that we do our dialogue on May 15 not at Vendome but at the building that used to be the central library where there will be a "Jane's talk" that same evening.
The biography mentioned her nephew Dr. Decker Butzner, who's with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary. When I connected with him, he confirmed that he is indeed her nephew, and he told me about a "Jane's talk" http://theyyscene.com/listings/calgary-urban-affairs-book-club-presents-janes-talk/ that takes place at the new downtown site https://evds.ucalgary.ca/ of the U of C's Faculty of Environmental Design. As I understand it they have a five year lease on the building that used to be the central public library. The "Jane's talk" on Wednesday is very participatory, not a lecture. It's scheduled for 6:30 to 8:00 PM this Wednesday May 15.
I'll send the book synopsis to you either tomorrow or Monday, but wanted to give you advance notice of this plan to change the venue for Wednesday.
