Hello Dialogue Artists,
We will move to a new downtown space for our dialogue on Wednesday September 18. We’ll be at our very own Humainologie Gallery & Store, 1514 Seventh Street SW. The Humainologie Gallery & Store is near the corner of Seventh Street and 17th Avenue SW, just two doors from Mona Lisa art supplies. The dialogue will start at 6 PM as usual. Advantages we’ll probably have over Vendome are 1) We’ll have the space all to ourselves; 2) It will be less noisy than Vendome; and 3) We won’t be asked to leave punctually at 8 PM (even though we are planning to keep the event within the two hour time limit).
Last Wednesday was a great experience, with about a dozen participants including several lively newcomers. We chose the topic How can we improve our skills as dialogue artists and thereby enhance the value of the Wednesday dialogues? In each of three break-out groups, we discussed the topic, then reconvened and heard the highlights from each of the three groups. What we learned will be a valuable resource for our future dialogues.
Here is a short menu of options for our topic this coming Wednesday. As before, we’ll choose the topic in the first 30 minutes, then break out into groups of 3 to 5 people for the dialogues, then reconvene after 45 minutes to share the highlights.
MENU (Choose just one.)
1. YOUR TOPIC HERE (Suggest a topic you would like to discuss.)
2. Think about a young person who is important to you in the present. This should be somebody born no further back than the turn of the 21st century so the cut-off date is January 1, 2000. Think about what you would like to place in a time capsule for this young person to find in 30 years' time. What might those items be? This could include writing, in the form of prose or a song. This could be your own creative work(s) and/or the creative work(s) of others, living or dead. These could be photos or articles. Why did you choose to include what you did in the time capsule?
3. If you could start any career of your choice and be sure of achieving success in that career within five years (financial security as well as a wonderful experience in the career itself), what career would you choose? Why would you choose that particular career?
4. If you had just one week to write a really good short story, how would you approach the challenge?
5. If you had to pick a really good movie for our dialogue group to watch and then discuss, what movie would you pick? Why would that particular movie be your choice? How would you lead the discussion of the movie?
