Our next dialogue starts at 6 PM this coming Wednesday November 13, at the Humainologie Gallery & Store, 1514 Seventh Street SW. I’ll suggest the topic of Life and Death. It’s the topic for one of the sections in a book of good quotes entitled 1001 Smartest Things Ever Said (edited and with an Introduction by Steven D. Price, 2004). I’ve selected a dozen quotations from many in that section. Pick one of your favorites here and tell us why you like that particular quotation.

“You are never too old to be what you might have been.” - George Eliot

“Who does not grow, declines.” - Rabbi Hillel

“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.’” - Eleanor Roosevelt

“Old age ain’t no place for sissies.” - Bette Davis

“The greatest thing in life is to die young – but delay it as long as possible.” – George Bernard Shaw

“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant.” - Robert Louis Stevenson

“I keep my ideals, because in spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart.” - Anne Frank

“If you cry because the sun has gone out of your life, your tears will prevent you from seeing the stars.” Rabindranath Tagore

“Never be haughty to the humble, never be humble to the haughty.” - Jefferson Davis

“If a man hasn’t discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.

“It is extraordinary how extraordinary the ordinary person is.” - George F. Will

“I said to Life, ‘I would hear Death speak.’ And Life raised her voice a little higher and said, ‘You hear him now.’” - Kahlil Gibran
