“Sustainable transformation is constructed in those places where citizens choose to come together to produce a desired future.”
- Peter Block, Community: The Structure of Belonging
Last Wednesday, with Nyabuoy facilitating, we discussed the opportunity each of us has to set a goal for the year ahead, based on a worthy purpose we have set for our life. This coming Wednesday, if you’re interested, we could explore a related topic, “Love and Friendship.” I’ll append below a few good quotes about that topic to get us started, in case you'd like to take it up. As always, however, your own ideas will be the best.
We’ll meet on Wednesday December 4, at the Humainologie Gallery & Store, 1514 Seventh Street SW, and the dialogue starts at 6 PM. There will be a dessert buffet, which has become a regular part of our Wednesday events. I'll probably send out a synopsis from a good book along with a reminder before the event.
Here are some good quotes about love and friendship:
“Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.”
- Buddha
“It is a good thing to be rich and a good thing to be strong, but it is a better thing to be loved by many friends.”
- Euripides
“If I can stop one heart from breaking, if I can ease one pain
Then my life will not have been in vain.”
- Emily Elizabeth Dickinson
“Listening is a magnetic and strange thing, a creative force. The friends who listen to us are the ones we move toward. When we are listened to, it creates us, makes us unfold and expand."
- Dr. Karl Augustus Menninger
“We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us.”
- Martin Luther King, Jr.
