With Zoe facilitating, we’ll meet at 6 PM this Wednesday January 15 at the Humainology Gallery & Store, 1514 Seventh Street SW. Zoe suggests the topic of Gratitude, and she provides this to get us started:
The practice of gratitude is simple and deeply impacting. It not only affirms that there is good but encourages us to celebrate it. By appreciating the value of the things in our lives we are more likely to be satisfied and retain appreciation for what we already have. This dialogue will focus on simple ways we can (and do!) practice gratitude in our daily lives.
There will be a dessert buffet and a good book on offer at the book giftival. If I can find the time before Wednesday, I’ll send a synopsis of a book that might help us boost the dialogue. And for another part of my contribution, here are a few good quotes on gratitude:
1. "Gratitude turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity...it makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow." Melody Beattie
2. "The deepest craving of human nature is the need to be appreciated." William James
3. "You cannot do a kindness too soon because you never know how soon it will be too late." Ralph Waldo Emerson
4. "Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things." Robert Brault
5. "It is impossible to feel grateful and depressed in the same moment." Naomi Williams
6. "When I started counting my blessings, my whole life turned around." Willie Nelson
7. "Gratitude also opens your eyes to the limitless potential of the universe, while dissatisfaction closes your eyes to it." Stephen Richards
8. "Gratitude and attitude are not challenges; they are choices." Robert Braathe
9. "Gratitude is a currency that we can mint for ourselves and spend without fear of bankruptcy." Fred De Witt Van Amburgh
10. "This a wonderful day. I've never seen this one before." Maya Angelou
11. "Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has plenty; not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some." Charles Dickens
12. "Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough." Oprah Winfrey
