The story line of “JoJo Rabbit” could be stated in any of a variety of ways. For example (and for present purposes) I’d say it’s a film about a youngster who “grows up,” and as he does so, escapes the tyranny of Groupthink. The setting is Nazi Germany and, as the film begins, Adolf Hitler is JoJo’s hero. Scenes in the movie depict how Groupthink was imposed in that time and place. JoJo is indeed tyrannized for a while, but as he experiences the world around him, his growing wisdom sets him free.

The tyranny of Groupthink is still with us, though it takes different forms in our time and place.

If there were one piece of wisdom you wish you had had when you were ten or fifteen or twenty years old, what would that piece of wisdom be? Would you share it with youngsters today, or do you think they should make their own mistakes and figure things out based on their own experience?

Our potluck and dialogue starts at 6 PM tomorrow Wednesday March 11 at the Humainologie Gallery & Store, 1514 Seventh Street SW. Bring us some wisdom for the dialogue and a healthy snack or dessert for the potluck.

Carpe diem,

Arthur
