Everything Happens for a Reason

“The point is not what we expect from life, but rather what life expects from us.” - Viktor Frankl

Someone once said that everything happens for a reason. Well okay, so how do we make sense of this horrific pandemic?

I was in a gloomy mood one morning recently and for some reason it crossed my mind that my father (97 years old now) had done aerial reconnaissance in the dark days of World War II. He had told me about the spirit of the times back then. You knew that you had to contribute to the war effort. That was that. If you’re in a bad mood, get over it and get to work to do your part today.

How we respond to life’s difficulties determines how we grow up. Every day life is telling us Grow up! and then throwing something at us to help with the process.

These are difficult times, and somehow it makes sense that they have come to visit us. “Everything happens for a reason,” so they say. We will make sense of this pandemic by how we respond to it. Some have called my father’s generation “the greatest.” Let’s see what we can do.
