“That which does not kill us makes us stronger.” - Friedrich Nietzsche

“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” – Neale Donald Walsch

“I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought; and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.” - G.K. Chesterton

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. Therefore, love whatever happens.

This advice - amor fati - from the Stoics was selected at our creative dialogue last Wednesday, as our theme for this month. It will also be our topic for creative dialogue next Wednesday April 14.

There’s a fable about “good luck” and “bad luck” that might help us at least accept whatever happens, and be flexible in how we think about it:

But love whatever happens?? How is that even possible? I mean, if you have a flat tire on the way to something important, it might mean that you miss your hair appointment; or it might mean that you lose the love of your life for the rest of your life. Love that flat tire you had?? Get serious!

Let’s talk about it. Here are a couple of good questions to help you start your creative engines for next Wednesday:

1. Has anything happened to you recently – or in your entire lifetime so far – that you felt you could not handle? A huge setback? A loss that caused you enormous grief, perhaps involving a relationship that was important to you? Something that happened which made it impossible for you to achieve a very important goal, making your dreams impossible? Think of something like that in your personal experience.

2. And then - never mind what the Stoics say – here is another good question: What did you learn from that experience? Please share your wisdom gained from that crisis or catastrophe.

I will send a book synopsis before next Wednesday.

Amor fati,

Arthur
