Little things change the course of history. The book Can’t Even: How Millennials Became the Burnout Generation by Anne Helen Petersen includes descriptions of the lives of highly motivated young adults, some of whom had at some point considered suicide. The wisdom of Emily Dickinson might have saved their lives by showing them the true value of their lives.

I think it’s essential for each of us to become increasingly aware of the vast potential inherent in our own life and in the lives of others. To explore that potential, you could run several short “quests” each year, each one a month or so in length and structured to explore an idea you are interested in. For example, you could use the idea from Emily Dickinson’s poem to structure a one-month quest. What would you discover about yourself and about others? You cannot know until you have run the experiment. You could even make your life’s quest a program of research to discover your life's potential. What might you accomplish and experience in your lifetime? That question could be the starting point for your research program, to be carried out as a series of quests.
