“Those who believe in telekinetics, raise my hand.” - Kurt Vonnegut
We meet again on Kurt Vonnegut’s birthday, November 11, for our Wednesday creative dialogue team practice. It’s also been called Armistice Day, Veterans Day, and so on, but I’ll suggest we celebrate Kurt Vonnegut Day on November 11 each year. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurt_Vonnegut
I’ll also invite you to write a very short story each year to celebrate that day. Basically, Kurt Vonnegut Day in our creative dialogue network will remind us to practice our story-writing skills. Here is a short video that gives you Kurt Vonnegut’s tips on how to write a short story
and here is a somewhat longer video of his presentation on the shape of stories https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOGru_4z1Vc
My good question for our next creative dialogue team practice: Can you write a short story (could be less than 100 words) and tell us about your story on Wednesday?
Here’s a poem I wrote about my recent experience at Folk Tree Lodge when Sasona and I invented a new approach to writing a poem.
A funny thing happened
on the way to my poem
last Sunday. Writer’s block.
It wasn’t that funny
at the time. Annoying really.
But it was good luck. With Sasona’s help
I unlocked the lock.
We invented a way past writer’s block
for poets. You just get some good
adjectives and some good
nouns and put them together
in a poem with a theme
from a good quote.
That’s it. That’s all we wrote.
Shinobu will send me the Zoom link for our team practice, and I’ll be back in touch after I’ve received it from her.
Just imagine!
Arthur
