“The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.”  - George Bernard Shaw

“To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others.”  - Tony Robbins

“There is no such thing as perfect communication; there is effective communication, which is a process of feedback and progressive adjustments.  The delusion that perfect communication is possible is a delusion that damages our relationships and personal lives.”  - Luigina Sgarro

You are all familiar with the story of the Tower of Babel.  Humans were trying to build something marvelous, and they found themselves unable to communicate, so their vision never became a reality.  That is not just a myth from long ago, it is an inherent aspect of everyday human interactions.

This coming Tuesday, October 25, starting at 6:00 PMGreg will facilitate a dialogue structured as a “TED-Like Conversation.”  It will give us a unique opportunity to enhance our communication skills.   Here is the Zoom link for 6:00 PM Tuesday October 25, provided by Greg: Join:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84806732275?pwd=ZmNLL2M3cERGeVBTR3FDem1YcTVUUT09

Meeting ID: 848 0673 2275

Passcode: 452022

And here is the description, based on material Greg sent to me: Greg MacGillivray as author, speaker and now facilitator will test the assertion that all-way, question-driven, idea-building, relationship-based conversation builds greater agency than one-way, talking-head(s) lecturing. Greg will present a 20-minute TED-like talk which will have six stops along the way for our family to provide their perspectives. This will be a great opportunity to get to know Greg a little better and to learn about his journey and go-forward ideas. Greg’s TED-Like Conversation is timely. The global pandemic has exposed the “rocks” in the river that is our society. These rocks have become more dangerous to people, to social cohesion, to human well-being and to the planet we call home. Some believe that we may indeed be facing ecological and civilizational collapse. Greg’s take is that the ideas and systems that we have built to serve are not only highly complex, they and our understanding of them have become increasingly strained in the face of unprecedented change. Add in the reality of competing stakeholders with differing interests and perspectives have delivered us to a place of unprecedented complexity. Together we are challenged to just to understand, let alone improve our complex systems, which makes it difficult to solve tough problems or pursue important opportunities. Only together can we do better. This talk shares many ideas. Ideas on where we came from as a species. Ideas on how humanity can flourish. Ideas on how you can help make it happen.   “We are stronger when we listen, and smarter when we share.”  - Rania Al-Abdullah   Arthur
